There are a number of ways in which the Digital Composition Studio can work with faculty and instructors in facilitating multimodal projects and assignments with their classes. This page provides you with a number of these options. It is recommended that you also review the "DCS for Students" page as well, to best understand how the DCS operates.
DCS ORIENTATIONS
Instructors are welcome to bring their students to the DCS for a dedicated orientation session with one of our tutors, but we do ask that you schedule this session ahead of time. To schedule an orientation, simply send us an email (thedcs@uaa.alaska.edu) and request the specific day and time you'd like to bring students to the DCS. If available, we'll reserve that session exclusively for your class and send you confirmation.
Because of the size of the DCS, you should not plan on bringing more than twelve to fourteen students to the DCS at a time. Given that our formal orientation runs about thirty minutes, many instructors will send half of their class to the DCS for the orientation and then send the other half for a follow-up orientation. We will, however, do what we can to accommodate your needs. Just let us know what you need!
THE DCS VIDEO
Each semester, the DCS generates a short video introduction of its services. This semester, our new video runs approximately three minutes in duration and is designed to provide a virtual introduction to the DCS, what we do, and how we operate. You can link this video through your course Blackboard site or show it in class. The video is located at http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Jqn3sH2Ex14
THE DCS FLYER
Each semester the DCS also generates a one-sheet flyer with hours, contact information, and the like. You can download the flyer in PDF format Download Here or you can save the JPG version provided at the bottom of this page.
SPECIAL REQUESTS
If you would like for the DCS to serve you or your students in a manner not discussed on this page, please send a direct email to Heather Caldwell, the DCS Coordinator, with your specific request. Her email is afhmc1@uaa.alaska.edu. If the DCS is able to serve your needs, we will do so.
Also remember that DCS tutors can help you develop your own multimodal course materials in the studio, provided there is room available!
